WHS and Drobo

Backup Add comments

If you want the backup to be better then you could buy a Drobo and install as much or as little storage as you wish.  To get this working and to have the abililty to upgrade the storage without the problems of USB, you need to use the network abilitiy.  This means that your WHS must have two Network cards, and your Drobo must have the Droboshare if your Drobo is not the DroboPro.

Setup you main network first, as usually you have to have a static IP address.

To make this simple for everyone to configure the best way is to have a router as a “backup” network for the use of backups from the WHS only.

Set the router up using a laptop or other desktop then connect the Drobo up and set that up with a static IP address and a network name and note this to configure the backup program.

Now connect the “backup” router to the WHS and then then fun begins with configuring the backup software.

There are many backup programs that you can use, use are going to use SyncToy 2 from Microsoft as it is free and in the next part we will show you how to configure this.
