Some people think and have reported that Windows Live Sync does not install when people install the Windows Live Essential software.
If you have not installed the Windows Live Essentials, go ahead and download and install it, you can get the setup file of Windows Live Essentials from http://download.live.com either the web or the stand alone.
Accept the Service agreement of the Windows Live Essentials.
In the above step of the setup/install of Windows Live Essentials you choose the Windows Live programs that you want installed (Windows Live Movie Maker Beta – is only for Windows Vista). As you can see there is no option for Windows Live Sync , however if you choose to install the Photo Gallery, Sync is installed.
Microsoft Office Outlook Connector and Microsoft Office Live Add-in will only show up when the computer has Microsoft Office installed.
It will now start the install of the Windows Live programs that you selected.
When the main installer of Windows Live Essentials is finished installing you can choose if you wish to have MSN as your home page and the search provider as Live Search.
When you clicked the Continue button on the past step, the installer will as “Do you have a Windows Live ID?” if you don’t you can Sign up for a Windows Live ID. When you click the Close button that exits the installer.
As you can see from the image above there is no Windows Live Sync, now I will show you how to get it on the Start Menu.
Navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Live, where C is the System drive. You can clearly see that there is a folder in the Windows Live folder for Sync.
Now navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Sync, right click on the WindowsLiveSync exe (Application) and select “Copy”.
Now go back to the Start Menu and right click on the Windows Live folder and click on the “Explore”.
The will open an explorer window and you will see all the shortcuts to Windows Live Essentials.
Now right click anywhere where there is free space and click on “Paste Shortcut”. As seen above.
Now there is a shortcut for WindowsLiveSync, we want it to be uniformed to be the same naming style as the default.
Right click on the WindowsLiveSync – Shortcut and click “Properties”. Now click on the General tab and change the text to Windows Live Sync. Click on OK.
As you can see from the above image the shortcut is now the same naming style as the Windows Live Essentials main programs, that show up in the Start Menu.
And now you have got Windows Live Sync under the Windows Live folder in the Start Menu.
If you are planning to use Windows Live Sync to transfer files automatically over your network, don’t as Windows Live Sync requires the Internet and can use up bandwidth if your ISP limited your bandwidth. You can use a Microsoft PowerToy called Sync Toy that is available from http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/downloads/synctoybeta.aspx.
